Scholarships at FFTC

We manage more than 150 scholarship funds that help deserving students pursue their educational goals.

Established by generous fundholders, these scholarships provide support for students ranging from kindergarten to graduate school.

Apply for a Scholarship

Search and Apply

To search for scholarship programs and applications, visit our online portal. You can search for scholarships based on keyword or criteria, and can view all scholarship funds to browse the options. Each scholarship has its own selection criteria and requirements. Most FFTC Scholarship Funds use the online application but some funds have their own paper application or asks that you contact an external school or organization to apply. We strongly encourage you to review the “How to Apply” for each of the funds you are interested in applying.

Scholarship Application Calendar

Early December: Current scholarship recipients are notified to complete the online Scholarship Renewal Application. New applications are available on our online scholarships portal.

Early March: Deadline to submit most applications to FFTC. Be sure to check specific scholarship deadlines.

March-May: Scholarship committees meet to review applications.

March-June: Scholarship awards are announced to applicants.

Mid-June: Scholarship payments are mailed to recipients' schools.

Open a Scholarship Fund

Product Overview

FFTC Scholarship Funds can be established by individuals, families, businesses or nonprofits with a minimum gift of $50,000 for our Select service level ($100,000 for corporations), or $500,000 for our Comprehensive service level.

You choose a school or other institution to facilitate the scholarship selection process, and FFTC works with the selected organization to ensure adherence to your philanthropic wishes and all relevant tax laws.

FFTC Select Scholarship Funds

Our basic level of scholarships include:

  • Flexibility to define program criteria, such as the schools or areas of study
  • Scholarship description and application posted on the Foundation’s grant website
  • Management of correspondence with students, parents and counselors
  • Complete adherence to complex IRS regulations for scholarship funds and awards
  • Philanthropic counsel throughout the gift process

FFTC Comprehensive Scholarship Funds

The Comprehensive service level offers a full-service approach for your scholarship program. Foundation For The Carolinas will fully manage your scholarship program, from promoting the opportunity to managing the scholar selection process, all while ensuring your philanthropic wishes are achieved.

Includes all Select level services, plus:

  • A dedicated FFTC relationship manager
  • Promotion of the scholarship opportunity to students
  • Hosting and facilitation of selection committee meetings
  • Maintenance of files for each scholarship recipient, and tracking individual academic performance
  • Management of scholarship renewal process

Assets We Accept

We can help you leverage an exceptionally wide variety of assets to achieve your charitable goals, including:

  • Cash
  • Marketable securities, including stocks, bonds and mutual funds
  • Real property, including land, primary and vacation homes and commercial property
  • Non-voting business interests that include closely held stock, limited partnership and LLC interests
  • Life insurance
  • Qualified retirement plan assets
  • Trust, estate and deferred gifts

Volunteer on a Committee

To ensure fairness in the selection process, FFTC Scholarship Funds rely upon committees of community volunteers to review applications and select qualified recipients based upon the specific purpose and criteria of each fund a established by its donor.

Scholarship Fund Creates Legacy of Learning

Beatrice and Charles Asbury both valued education, although financial circumstances prevented either from finishing high school.

Their children created an annual scholarship to honor their parents by helping Concord High School students achieve their own dreams.

Cabarrus Teacher Leaves a Lasting Gift

Earl Willie and his late wife, Margaret, were schoolteachers in Cabarrus County. In his estate plan, Earl left a planned gift to create a scholarship fund named in Margaret's honor and to permanently support the causes they cared about most.

Katherine and Jane McKay had no children of their own, so they chose to create planned gifts to support their community, their church, education, and animals.
